The Slaak |  Hotel and Restaurant |  Rotterdam

Once home to the iconic Dutch newspaper Het Vrije Volk, this historic building has been transformed into a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. The design honors the building's leftist roots while creating a luxurious, boutique experience. Inspired by the 1950s post-war optimism, the interior celebrates freedom and authenticity, with vibrant colours, bold patterns, and warm metal finishes.

The unconventional layout blends reception, bar, and show kitchen, fostering interaction between guests and locals. A striking central bar, visible from the street, connects indoor and outdoor spaces.

Guest rooms embrace mid-century art movements, featuring handmade furniture and multifunctional spaces for sleeping, writing, and relaxing. Contrasting materials—shiny and colourful against rough and grey—add depth, while lighting enhances the overall mood, creating an inspiring environment where creativity thrives.
